'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bristol City v Hull City - Wembley 24th May 2008

There are plenty of previews available elsewhere. Instead I have fallen back on a favourite hobby of mine. Stats.

Did you know we have never lost a 90 minute game of football played on the 24th May?

Did you know that two of those games were played at Wembley?

Did you know that I was there for both of them and missed a family wedding to be at one of them?

Did you know that we have the following record for games played on 24th May?
Played 5
Won 3
Drawn 2
Lost 0
Goals For 6
Goals Against Just 1

Did you know that you can get more of these stats from the very wonderful http://www.citystats.org.uk?

Who were the two games played at Wembley against? I assume they were play off final matches? BTW good luck.

Freight Rover Trophy finals (now Johnstones Paint Trophy). Beat Bolton on 24th May 1986 3-0 and then lost on penalties to Mansfield Town exactly a year later. Click on the link in the article for all the info. Thanks for the wishes. I'm off to Wembley. CIDER ARMY!!!

You were the better team Bristol, but you lacked a cuttin edge - get that and you will go up - you outplayed us for most of the game - you can be proud of your boys today they did you credit - maybe see you next season ?

Next season the team will do it, unlucky on the day.

Someone had to lose. It just wasn't your time this season. Bounce back like West Brom did. You did well to get to the final. I wish you good luck next year when you don't play Watford. (1881 Forever)

Yes records are there to be broken. If you had read between the lines you will have seen that we lost on penalties to Mansfield on 24th May 1987 at Wembley. The article was tongue in cheek and clearly to subtle for a saghead to understand. We did lack a cutting edge on the day and in truth despite a wonderful season that has been the theme. We haven't scored enough goals because we have over-played the ball when either a shot or a cross would have reaped rewards. Take nothing away from Hull City who got it tactically spot on particularly after taking the lead. I wish them well and hope that they not only stay up but finish high up in the Premier League and prove all the pundits wrong. I think Tigers are grrrreat!

It may be hard at the moment but you must be able to look back on a fantastic season for City during the summer.
