As it happens: Blackpool v Bristol City

An hour away from Bristol City's new season and an old name has appeared as one of the first scorers in 2008/2009. Enoch Showumni has scored on his debut as Leeds Utd win 2-1 at Scunthorpe. Kevin Phillips scores a late winner, coming on as substitute on his debut at St Andrews, as Birmingham City beat Sheffield United 1-0 in the Championship early kick-off.

The Blackpool drum is being beaten and someone is dressed as a banana. City force a throw in by the corner flag with the first attack of the game but the move breaks down and Blackpool break but Basso collects an overhit ball.

Ipswich 1 Preston 0.

Blackpool win a free kick on the left side of midfield but it drifts wide.

Sheffield Wednesday are 2-0 up already against Burnley.

A cross by Hammill leads to a bit of a mix up in the City penalty area but Jorgensen slices his shot out for a throw in. Most of the play is Blackpools. 10 mins played

Nicky Maynards first shot is comfortably gathered by Rachubka. Bristol City force the first corner of the game but it comes to nothing. Gavin Williams and Michael McIndoe have switched wings.

The unmentionables are 1-0 up at home to Carlisle.

A good exchange between McIndoe and Maynard sees the striker go down in the box, no penalty but Maynard shaken by the challenge. Cole Skuse gets the first booking of the season. A dangerous break by Cameron sees Burgess sky an easy chance.

The saggy ones have leaked an equaliser.

Good work from Gavin Williams and Dele Adebola sees a McIndoes first time shot deflected for a corner. Mc Alister has a shot as the ball braks from the corner and Rachubka struggles to deal with it. At the other end Keith Southern shoots straight at Basso.

Basso saves well from Keith Southern. Blackpool have had the better of the game but City have had four shots on target to their three. Blackpools win their first corner and Basso is caught in nomans land but McCombe is fouled.

A Blackpool free kick is sliced for a corner by Jamie McCombe.

Nicky Maynard is put clear by Dele Adebola and fires in a shot which is well saved by Rachubka. A hammill cross just drifts beyond the head of Burgess and out of play. McCombe did enough to put him off.

The losers are losing at the Memorial "Stadium".

Chris Weale replaces Adriano Basso in goal for the second half. Nicky Maynard shoots but the referee has already blown for a free kick to Bristol City in a decent position 25 yards out central to the goal. McIndoes shot is tipped over by Paul Rachubka. The corner comes to nothing as Louis Carey shoots over. 1,521 City fans in attendance. Hammill shoots just wide and a cross-cum-shot goes wide from Gavin Williams with McCombe appealing for a penalty.

Bradley Orr is booked for a challenge on Hammill. The free kick goes behind for a corner. Lee Johnson concedes a free kick on the very edge of the box. The free kick hits the wall. Weale makes a decent save as the home side create the early pressure in the second half. A diving header from Ian Evatt goes just wide.

Sheff Weds 4 Burnley 1

Ivan Sproule comes on for Gavin Williams on the right. Cole Skuse is lucky to avoid a second booking. A cross from MCindoe is fklicked on by Adebola challenging the keeper and Nicky Maynard misses the target from six yards out. He should have scored. He then has a shot deflected over.

Chris Weale handles outside of his area and escapes with a booking. The free kick comes to nothing.

Plymouth 2 Wolves 2

Gareth Taylor-Fletcher is replaced by David Vaughan and he nearly runs through on goal within seconds of coming on. Steve Brooker replaces Dele Adebola up front for City.

Sags 3-1 down at home, a promising start for them.

Sproule Maynard and Brooker combine well but Rachubka saves comfortably again. Then at the other end Weale makes a stunning save from Keith Southern at point blank range with Skuse clearing off the line and then Burgess shooting the rebound wide.

Chris Weale saves excellently again from Hammill as Blackpool break at pace, both sides are pushing for a late winner. AND IT'S CITY THAT GET IT AS STEVE BROOKER TURNS SHOOTS AND SCORES FROM THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE PENALTY AREA DRILLING IT INTO THE TOP OF THE NET. A minute to hang on. Blackpool pushing hard for the equaliser.But after nearly four painful minutes of injury time City nick the win. Or did they steve the win. Fantastic outcome.
