Iriekpen heading to the Gate?

Iriekpen heading to the Gate?

Izzy Iriekpen is apparently set to move to Bristol City - according to Hamilton boss Billy Reid.

Iriekpen was set to complete a deal with the Scottish Premier League side after his contract with Scunthorpe was terminated nine days ago, however the 26-year-old appears to have set his heart on a move to Ashton Gate.

Reid told BBC Sport: 'I spoke to Izzy last week and he told me he was coming, but then I got a call last night from his agent telling me he was going to Bristol City. It's disappointing but that's the nature of the game.'

City fans, and manager Gary Johnson, will remember Iriekpen especially for the moment Gary Johnson tackled him in a fiery clash at the back end of City's promotion season in 2007. The two confronted each other leading to the City boss receiving his marching orders.

Johnson has made his intentions to sign a centre-back clear, and after releasing several trialists, it appears the former Yeovil boss has captured his target.
