No deal for Lejsal

No deal for Lejsal

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has decided against offering a full-time contract to trialist keeper Martin Lejsal.

The former Czech Republic Under-21 international has been at City for just over a week trying to impress Johnson in the hope of earning a contract with the club.

Johnson held initial discussions regarding the prospect of signing the keeper, but in this instance there is nothing doing and with Lejsal's parent club, FC Brno, calling for a decision to be made before this weekend's friendly against Wycombe, Johnson was forced to say no.

'His club were pushing for a decision early as there had been interest from (Dutch club) Heerenveen,' Johnson told the club's official website.

'We put Martin through a stringent medical but decided at this time we couldn't offer him anything, it wouldn't be right for the club.'

While deciding to pass on Lejsal, Johnson admits he is still in the market for a new keeper as Adriano Basso is transfer listed and Stephen Henderson is sidelined with a fractured toe.

'We'll carry on searching and we have a few irons in the fire,' he said.

Shame this didn't come off. It sounded quite promising to me. Apparently he had a history of shoulders problems and failed a stringent club medical...

Bristol City's three game unbeaten run - a Milan Djuric goal in added time was too little too late - at Leeds didn't prove too costly as we remain three points above the bottom three.

Newcastle's draw wasn't costly as Brighton also failed to win. Wigan's win boosted survival chances but they remain in the bottom three with Blackburn and Rotherham.
