'If It's Football, It's Vital'

City Sign Costa Rican Forward Saborio

City fans were aware that Gary Johnson was working hard to capture at least one more striker before the deadline but there are few people that could have guessed that it would be another South American import.

Álvaro Saborío is a 27-year-old Costa Rican striker who made a name for himself scoring almost 100 goals in his homeland before moving to FC Sion in 2006.

Since moving to Switzerland, he has scored 36 times in 87 appearances and has become an integral part of the Costa Rican national team, netting 18 times in 53 appearances.

Speaking to bcfc.co.uk on his move, Saborio said: "It's a big step for me coming to England. I'm so happy to be here.

"It's a dream to play here in England and I hope it all goes well."

Alvaro sees himself playing the target man role City so crave: "I'm a typical number nine striker who likes to score goals and create for team-mates.

"I want to make a difference and I'll give my all for the club to do it."

City fans are hoping he will be a success during his stay, perhaps emulating the once iconic status of fellow South American, Adriano Basso.

After completing the paperwork, the Costa Rican will fly out immediately to meet his fellow countrymen in time for their World Cup Qualifiers this weekend.

I'm sure City fans all around the country are eager to see Alvaro pull on a red shirt in the coming weeks, starting at Coventry in ten days.
