Maynard Blow

Maynard Blow

Bristol City were dealt a blow today when news broke that striker Nicky Maynard could be out of the side for two weeks.

The club's top scorer with 11 goals to his name so far this season picked up a thigh injury and had to be replaced in the game against Coventry at the weekend.

Boss Gary Johnson said: "Nicky will definitely miss the game at Watford and he could be out for some time.

"He has a large haematoma in his thigh and it usually takes a couple of weeks for something like that to clear up. It's going to be a matter of how many games he misses."

With Danny Haynes also set to miss Tuesday's trip to Watford with an illness, the door must surely now open for David Clarkson to stake an overdue claim from the start.

He's looked tired and in need of a rest for a while. Probably the best thing for him.
