Johnson Shown The Door

Gary Johnson has left his role as City manager by mutual consent after five years in the job.

As we revealed last night, the 54-year old was allegedly involved in an incident with a City player down in Plymouth on Tuesday night and has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

It is led to believe things came to head at Home Park when Johnson had an altercation with City's Northern Irish winger Ivan Sproule during the half-time break, which was reported to the Police by an Argyle steward.

Johnson was offered the chance to resign with his reputation still in tact or be issued with disciplinary proceedings, which led to the mutual decision. Johnson will now receive compensation up until the end of next season (2010-11) as part of the agreement.

Sadly, assistant manager Keith Millen has been placed in temporary charge of the first-team until a suitable replacement has been found.

Former Scotland manager George Burley is the first name to publicly declare an interest in the job, with Gareth Southgate and former City centre-back Steve McClaren are favoured by the bookies.
