Maynard To Go Under The Knife

Maynard To Go Under The Knife

As if going out to Southend in the first round of the Carling Cup was bad enough, there is more bad news for the Robins today with the news that Nicky Maynard needs an operation.

The 24-year-old striker is due to go under the knife on Wednesday to try and sort out a knee problem.

This means that last season's 21-goal top scorer will be out of action for at least eight weeks before he can start his rehabilitation.

"Nicky will have an operation today (Wednesday)," confirmed manager Steve Coppell.

"The specialist has found a problem and recommended surgery but we will not know the full extent of the problem until he goes into the knee to see what is there.

"We are hoping it is not too serious and that it will be a case of four to five weeks before he is able to train."

Maynard pulled up just a week after reporting back for pre-season training and has been ruled out ever since.
