Wigley appointed Millen's number two

City manager Keith Millen has appointed former Southampton boss Steve Wigley as his number two.

Wigley, 48, has agreed a one-year rolling contract and will combine his duties with assisting Stuart Pearce in charge of the England under-21's.

And Millen is delighted to have brought Wigley to Ashton Gate.

"I'm excited that Steve has agreed to come on board and he's looking forward to helping myself and the team with his coaching ability," the City boss told bcfc.co.uk.

"He's got a great knowledge of the game but the most important thing is Steve hasn't worked at Bristol City before and comes in with a fresh pair of eyes.

"I was conscious that I've been here with the players for a long time - which is a good thing in management - but also I think it's important they have a different voice coaching them at times with different ideas.

"I met with Steve on Sunday and he was very keen to join us. I already knew him from our coaching course and we got on well. He'll join us starting tomorrow (Thursday)."

Wigley will start his role immediately and will be on the bench for Barnsley visit to BS3 on Saturday.
