Preston manager Darren Ferguson heaped praise on Bristol City goalkeeper David James, after the veteran pulled off a couple of good saves to prevent the visitors from taking three points away from Ashton Gate.
The Lilywhites took the lead early on through Iain Hume and they should really have put the game beyond City`s reach when Parkin curled in a shot but James pulled off a world-class save to keep the portly striker's effort out.
Then City hit back at Preston and were rewarded with a goal, Billy Jones diverting a Marvin Elliot header into the net.
"The save by James was world-class and proved a turning point in the game," Ferguson said.
"If we had scored a second goal then I'm sure we would have gone on to win.
"I'm really pleased with the performance of my team and we are bitterly disappointed not to have won.
"Getting an early goal was really important because I'm sure Bristol aimed to start the game quickly and put us under pressure.
"Parkin and Hume are looking a really good combination up front for us and I thought our central defenders Sean St Ledger and Craig Morgan also looked very strong as a partnership.
"We have a really big week ahead with home games against Barnsley and Hull, but we can take a lot of confidence from this display."
