City begin Maynard contract talks
Bristol City have finally announced that they have opened talks with star striker Nicky Maynard over a new deal.
The 24-year-old has scored six goals in eight Championship games since returning from a long lay-off with a knee injury in February.
And boss Keith Millen admits that contract talks are now underway with several players at Ashton Gate, including Maynard.
"Nicky's happy to be back playing again, fit and scoring goals and we're delighted to have him." Millen told bcfc.co.uk
"There's discussions going on, like there is with a few players as I don't want to leave everything to the summer.
"We know what we want to do and that's what we're getting on with."
Maynard has little over 12 months to run on his current contract, leading media speculation to build over a potential summer move for the ex-Crewe frontman.
A host of Premier League clubs such as Newcastle, Fulham, Blackburn and Bolton have been linked with Maynard in recent weeks, but the man himself would only swap Ashton Gate for Ashburton Grove - with Arsenal.
"It's just about being hungry. Everyone wants to play in the Premier League," Nicky reportedly told the Daily Star.
"I'm an Arsenal fan, so Gunners' legend Ian Wright was one of my heroes. He didn't get to play there until late and it shows what's possible."
