City Out Of Carling Cup

City Out Of Carling Cup

League Two side Swindon knocked Bristol City out of the Carling Cup at Ashton Gate last night.

Italian striker Raffaele De Vita took full advantage of some awful City defending to grab the only goal of the game, heading home with 19 minutes left on the clock.

When the goal finally came, it was no surprise to most of the crowd who had seen City put in a lacklustre display in all departments

Leon Clarke was unlucky not to give the visitors the lead after just five minutes of the game, he latched onto a cross from Callum Kennedy, but Lewin Nyatanga was on hand to block the close range effort.

Another chance went to Matt Ritchie soon after but he somehow managed to scuff his shot.

City`s best chance came on 30 minutes when Brett Pitman found himself through on goal but fired just wide.

Early in the second half it looked like City had taken the lead when Adomah teed up Neil Kilkenny, but he was denied by a good save from Phil Smith

But it was the away fans who were left celebrating when De Vita did the business for Swindon.

And Smith came to Swindon`s rescue once again when he managed to stop a golbound effort from Adomah.
