Maynard Joins Allardyce At Upton Park

West Ham have signed striker Nicky Maynard from Bristol City on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The fee is reported to be around the £1.6 million mark, less than what City were believed to be holding out for.

Maynard`s current contract ran out in the summer which would have meant City would have seen the player depart for no fee.

The player was linked with a move to Wigan last week but conflicting reports said that he had turned down the deal while the club said that no offer had been made.

Colin Sexstone told the official website: 'For a long time we tried to get Nicky to sign a new contract and commit his future to the club.

'But once we knew that would not be possible, it was in the club's best interests to search out the best deal possible.

'With the West Ham offer, I believe we have secured a good deal for the club and at the same time brought a closure to this matter.

'It's now time to move on and I think it's important for everyone associated with the club to pull together now as we look to end the season positively and secure our Championship status for next year.'

My take is simple we no longer have someone with the pace to play with one up top on his own and because of our defence we can't really play 4-4-2 so its got to be 4-3-3 for me and the front 3 being Adomah - Woods - Bolaise
