'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Final Word From Maynard

Ex City striker Nicky Maynard says that the chance to join West Ham United was too good to turn down.

The on-off saga finally ended on deadline day when a move to Upton Park was finalised for an undisclosed fee.

For months City tried to get Maynard to sign, but he kept turning down the deals that were offered so on the transfer list he went and the Hammers were to benefit.

And after signing on the dotted line for his new club, he told the Bristol City official website:'I enjoyed my time at Bristol City but the opportunity to move to a massive club like West Ham, who are destined for the Premier League, was too good to turn down.

'I thank everyone connected with (Bristol City) for giving me the chance at Championship level and I loved scoring goals for the team and the fans. I have respect for everyone there and plan to keep in touch with the lads and staff. I hope the team continues to progress and I'll look out for the results.

'I fully expect the club, under this management team, to continue to move up the table and they'll be fine come the end of the season.'

What a reception our mate NM will get. I would love them to falter. No prem side in for him. It was the best he was going to get.

There will be other Maynards, because there always are So, one goes who was valuable to us, and 2 go who were a drain on our resources. But nobody joined, which is a shame.
