'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Baldock Stays With City Says Boss.

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill is warning clubs not to bother making any approaches for Sam Baldock as he is not for sale at any price.

City's top scorer who now has 26 for the season in his best spell ever has a year left on his current contract which means that clubs are likely to come sniffing around to see if they can tempt City into selling.

But Cotterill is certain that the club have no need to sell players as the books are balanced and money was made available to him this season thanks to Steve Lansdown.

Cotterill's hopes are to build a team around the striker for next season

He told the Western Daily Press: 'Sam has another year left on his contract and we don't have to sell anyone. I've not been given a remit that says I have to sell anyone, so I don't see that happening.

'Sam is an important part of my plans going forward and, of course, I want him to still be here next season. There are quite a few of the boys who fall into that category.

'But Sam is a goal-scorer and he does pounce on mistakes and score goals out of nothing. I can play him down the middle or I can play him wide and he always scores. Players like that are hard to come by.'

Baldock showed his worth to Bristol City over Easter with two goals against Notts County and another on in the win over Stevenage.

It would be absolutely stupid to sell him, this must not happen
Hopefully we can keep him, but if a mid table championship club came along, he'll be gone
