'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dull Affair Brings Home Games To An End.

Bristol City`s East End was well filled for its last ever time in use before demolition starts and Crewe came to spoil the party.

The Cheshire outfit parked the bus and set about getting the point that they had come for while spoiling a game of football in the process.

Ironically it was the visitors who missed the best chance of the game and that didn't come until near the end.

The Robins had their defence set up right and managed to cope with nearly everything that Crewe could put together and that wasn't a lot.

But the one time they did manage to cause a problem, Matt Tootle missed an open goal from around seven yards, much to the delight of the Bristol City faithful.

Crewe were happy to come forward but City managed to deal with everything they had, which wasn't much when it came to an area they could have done some damage. In fact both sides had enough chances going wide of the target but only one each on target.

The game did eventually reach the stage of each side giving the ball away far to easy, but both sides would have been happy enough with the draw, even though the fans wanted to go out with a bang.

Bristol City: Moore; Nosworthy, Osborne, Williams; Wagstaff (Burns 70), Pack, Gillett, (Reid 78) Elliott, Cunningham; Emmanuel-Thomas (Paterson 72), Baldock.

Crewe: Garratt; Tootle, Ellis, Turton, Dugdale; Moore, Guthrie, Grant, Pogba (Inman 88); Nolan; Ikpeazu.

Referee: Eddie Ilderton.

Attendance: 14,447.
