'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Managers Speak: City v Colchester.

Steve Cotterill was not getting carried away when he spoke about City's win over Colchester United on Saturday.

Cotterill saw his team come from behind to beat a stubborn Colchester side with Aaron Wilbraham grabbing both of City's goals after George Moncur had given the visitors an early lead.

Cotterill told reporters: 'It's a decent start, but no more than that. We can be fitter and sharper in our thinking.

'We have a new pitch, which is a bit quicker than the players have been used to and it will take time to adjust.

'But I'm pleased with the effort of the players and feel I have a really good group.'

It took Colchester just nine minutes to shock a majority of the Ashton Gate crowd when Moncur fired home from 12 yards.

But City hit back just a minute after the half time break and it was Wilbraham who showed off his skills with a clever finish with the right foot.

The striker struck again on 68 minutes when he rose at the far post to head home Cunningham's cross.

Colchester manager Joe Dunne said: 'It was a lapse in concentration. Several mistakes contributed to the winning goal.

'Other than that I was delighted with my young team. We have made one of the strongest teams in our division fight all the way for their victory.

'I was particularly pleased for young Frankie Kent at the back. His performance will make me think twice about how to spend the small amount of money for a loan signing that I have available.

'We are very disappointed and frustrated not to have taken anything from the game.'
