McAllister - Plymouth Showed Bristol City Hunger

Despite the changes to the side that beat Barnsley on Saturday, Bristol City had little problem in brushing aside Plymouth on Tuesday.

A dominant Robins performance resulted in a 5-0 League Cup win.

Much the same as the weekend victory, City were in complete control in the first half, three up in fact inside of 20 minutes when Jens Hegeler opened the scoring, Nathan Baker marked his second debut with a header and Korey Smith curled in the third.

A fourth from teenage debutant Freddie Hinds had City four up at half time.

Jamie Paterson's late fifth completed the rout as the Robins marched into the second round.

Unsurprisingly assistant head coach Jamie McAllister, who had been in charge of Hinds during his time in the U23 side, had much praise for Hinds, 18, following his 30 yard effort in a promising City debut.

He told the Official Website: 'It was great to see Freddie score an outstanding goal on his debut. He played a lovely little one-two with Browny (Josh Brownhill), took a touch and hit a knuckle ball into the top corner. I think he cramped up after 37 minutes! But he lasted 90 minutes just through sheer adrenaline. It was great to see him score, and what a goal it was.'

Adding: 'He`s come into pre-season with the first team and done really well - working really hard in and out of possession. He`s always keen to learn and improve, he`s a natural finisher and he makes good runs. When he`s playing in a good side, as he was tonight, he`s going to get chances and score goals.'

The fact Hinds, joined by fellow academy graduate Lloyd Kelly, making his City debut when he came on, Zak Vyner and Joe Morrell have come through the clubs' set up to be involved in the first team proves what the Robins are looking to do at Ashton Gate.

McAllister added: 'It just shows that the pathway is there. We had Zak Vyner, Joe Morrell, Lloyd Kelly and Freddie on the pitch at the end.'

As for the game itself, McAllister went on to say, in spite of the six changes from the Barnsley win and the youngster involved, he thought City had played some 'great stuff' with all 'excellent' on the night.

'We were outstanding and we carried it on from the weekend. After 30 minutes we were 3-0 up against Barnsley and tonight we were 3-0 up after 19 minutes, added McAllister. 'We played some great stuff, totally dominated possession and scored some great goals. We made six changes but to a man they were excellent. It just shows you how hungry the lads are to play and tonight just showcased what we`ve been doing all pre-season.'
