Johnson Hails Great Brentford Spirit

Bristol City were facing a second successive Championship defeat until an added time equaliser secured a 2-2 draw at Brentford on Tuesday.

Again, which had been the case against Birmingham on Saturday, City went ahead when Famara Diedhiou set up Josh Brownhill to score.

Having kept out previous efforts Frank Fielding was beaten when Ollie Watkins headed Brentford level before Neal Maupay curled the Bees ahead.

Set for defeat, Bobby Reid followed up a save from Brentford goalkeeper Daniel Bentley, in the eighth minute of added time, to rescue a point for City.

A delighted Lee Johnson, praising the 'great spirit' and support from the fans, told the Official Website: 'We showed a great spirit tonight and the fans were unbelievable - probably up there with the best I`ve heard and seen from them. They never stopped supporting the boys and you know I`m happy when I`ve got two grazes on my knees from doing knee slides like Alex Ferguson in the 98th minute!'

Adding: 'I`m wired and chuffed because we now go into two home games and our fans are going to be so important because it`s tough to go through this many games at the start of the season. It`s a big point because they`re a good side and we had to defend. Even players not used to defending had to defend a lot.'

He went on to praise Freddie Hinds, one of the players Johnson turned to as he 'threw caution to the win', who made an impact from the bench, making his league debut, and the experience of Gary O'Neil to 'get us back in the game.'

If it hadn't been for Fielding's saves too it could have been different. However, Johnson also stressed he wanted the Robins to 'defend slightly higher.'

'Frank Fielding was fantastic. He had to be called upon five or six times, including one great save down to his left. On the flipside I want us to defend slightly higher than we did tonight. I think we`re a better team this year in that everybody works hard for each other and puts their bodies on the line.'
