Taylor Delighted With Stoke Strike

Matty Taylor has been speaking about his delight at getting off the mark in 2017/18 with his goal against Stoke City last night.

The former Bristol Rovers front man was handed his first start of the campaign at Ashton Gate as we hosted Mark Hughes' Premier League side in the third round of the EFL Cup, and as well as laying on Famara Diedhiou's opener in the second half when his shot came back off the woodwork, he went and got our second to ensure victory and another trip to the fourth round draw.

Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference, the 27 year old explained.

'I probably should have scored two, but I am over the moon to get on the scoresheet and we got the win so I am buzzing. I thought my initial effort was going in and I couldn`t believe it when it came back off the post. However, as we practise in training, Fam followed it up and I was buzzing for him to score.'

Adding.

'Thankfully I got another effort midway through the second half and I took it on my left, putting it across the keeper and it went in, which sealed the win.'

With nine changes made by manager Lee Johnson, Taylor went on to say that it shows the depth we now have in the group.

'We were so energetic tonight and I thought we were the better side for the majority of the game and deserved the win. It just shows the strength in depth we have here. We all trust each other and we listen to the gaffer in training and implement what he wants us to do. Hopefully we can continue to have more nights like tonight. We will now wait and see who we draw in the next round but I hope it is one of the big clubs away - that would be a nice present for the boys!'

Speaking about his own fitness progress, he ended by saying.

'It is a bit better after tonight but I am probably still a bit behind the other lads. I have only featured a couple of times for the under-23s but it`s all in the bank now and hopefully my fitness will improve each day. I was just about on my last legs when I got taken off. I think I played longer than the gaffer wanted me to and I am pleased with myself.'
