Instant Reactions - Derby v Bristol City (19/1/18)

Following yesterday's clash between Derby County and Bristol City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Derby County hosted Bristol City at Pride Park for a 7.45pm kick off on Friday January 19, with both sides playing out a scoreless draw.

With Derby dominating overall chances, they didn't manage many more on target that the visitors but clearly the talking point from the game was the penalty shout as Cameron Jerome was booked for 'simulation' when there clearly was contact from Aden Flint whether he intended it or not.

Teams:

Derby:

Carson, Wisdom, Keogh, Davies, Forsyth, Huddlestone, Thorne, Lawrence, Vydra (Jerome 76), Russell (Weimann 76), Nugent (Winnall 76).

Substitutes:

Baird, Pearce, Hanson, Mitchell.

Bristol City:

Fielding (Steele 45), Wright, Flint, Baker (Diedhiou 45), Magnusson, Brownhill, Pack, Smith, Bryan, Paterson, Reid.

Substitutes:

Walsh, Engvall, Eliasson, Kelly, Kent.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Darren England blew the final whistle, Derby County manager Gary Rowett explained.

'I asked the referee afterwards and he said 'it looked to me like it wasn't clear'. I understand that he has got to make a decision, but he has got it wrong. It has cost us a chance to win the game. But we had enough chances to not need the penalty tonight. For big spells of the game, we caused Bristol City lots and lots of problems.'

Bristol City gaffer Lee Johnson in his comparative interview explained.

'It was a bit cagey in the first half, with both teams showing a bit too much respect to each other. But in the second half it opened up, it was end to end, both teams had some good chances and Luke Steele had to pull off two very good saves. You could say we were lucky to get away with a point but we worked very hard. It's a good point for us and it stops the mini rot.'

With Derby having a penalty shout, Johnson admitted City probably got away with it.

'I'll be honest, live, I did think it was a dive, and then I looked up to my left where the replay was on, which shouldn't have been legal to do so by the rules - it could have started a riot particularly in the technical area. But I did then think it looked like a penalty on the replay but sometimes you get away with those. It was a good effort from the players. We deserved it. We worked very hard. We were definitely in the game and looked decent on the counter. It is a good point.'
