Saint-Etienne Striker Joins Bristol City

Saint-Etienne Striker Joins Bristol City

Late yesterday evening Bristol City confirmed the loan capture of Saint-Etienne striker Lois Diony.

The 25 year old becomes our third signing of the January window and having passed his medical he comes into Ashton Gate on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Bristol City do have the option of making the deal permanent come the summer.

Speaking to the Official Site as the deal was confirmed, head coach Lee Johnson explained.

'Lois is a very interesting signing for us. He boasts a good record in France and I believe he has all the attributes to be a big success for us in the Championship.'

Diony made the move to Saint-Etienne in the summer from Dijon for a reported £9million having helped Dijon to avoid the drop with a return of eleven goals. He also helped the club into Ligue 1 being top scorer for the club in 2015/16 and 2016/17 having originally made his debut for FC Nantes back in 2012.

Subject to international clearance coming in, he should be available to potentially make his debut in this weekend's clash on home soil against Queens Park Rangers. He was also in attendance for the game against Manchester City.

Speaking himself after the deal was done, Diony explained that he felt he was well suited to the English game and he was glad to finally get the deal done.

'I`m very happy to come to Bristol City. I think this is a good opportunity to show what I can do in this country. I want to find my smile because with Saint-Etienne I lost it. I want to enjoy my life as a footballer and prove to myself that I can play in England. A lot of people have said that my game would suit English football. Now I`m here, I want to see for myself. My style is about speed and power. I`m a striker, so I want to score goals, but also provide assists for my teammates. My friends call me a bull. I enjoy contact with the opposition and I want to come here to score and to help others score.'

He also comes into the club knowing a friendly face in the shape of Famara Diedhiou.

'I have known Famara for around five or six years. We played together at Nantes in the second team there. We kept in contact and we faced each other when Dijon and Angers played, both in Ligue 2 and Ligue 1. He`s a friend and we talk sometimes. I`m happy to see him again in Bristol.'

Diony takes the No 39 shirt for the rest of the campaign.
