Instant Reactions - Ameobi Takes The Headlines (2/2/18)
Following today's clash between Bolton Wanderers and Bristol City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.
Bolton Wanderers hosted Bristol City at the Macron Stadium for an 8pm kick off on Friday February 2, with the hosts taking a one nil victory courtesy of a 71st minute Sammy Ameobi effort.
The win lifted Bolton Wanderers out of the relegation zone and the strike was Ameobi's first since October. Defeat for Bristol City sees them lose ground on the top two as they hunt promotion this season.
Alnwick, Dervite, Wheater, Beevers, Little (Morais 79), Derik, Henry, Vela, Robinson, Ameobi, Walker (Clough 58).
A Taylor, Le Fondre, Buckley, Flanagan, Howard.
Steele, Smith, Flint, Wright, Bryan, Paterson (Magnusson 65), Brownhill, Pack (Diony 66), Kent, Reid, Diedhiou (Engvall 86).
Walsh, Eliasson, Kelly, Wollacott.
Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Andy Madley blew the final whistle, Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson explained.
'We showed great resilience. People have written us off all season. We have sold our top scorer and people are writing us off again, so we have to prove them wrong again. It felt tonight before the game that people were patting us on the back and saying we were unlucky. I said I expected us not to draw, but win the game. Everybody will talk about Sammy, who will get the headlines, but it was a team effort and the players stuck to our game plan and restricted a very good team to few chances.'
Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson in his comparative interview explained.
'I didn't like our performance and I didn't like our players' attitudes. I thought we pulled out of a couple of tackles early, I thought we played into their hands and we didn't get in behind them enough. You have to credit Bolton, they were excellent. I thought Sammy Ameobi was the best player on the pitch, which was disappointing.'
