City Hold Watford To A Draw In FA Cup

Bristol City
1 - 1

Ashton Gate

4 January 2014

Attendance: 10,165

League One Bristol City still have a chance of reaching the fourth round of the FA Cup after drawing 1-1 with Watford at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

But City had to fight back after falling a goal behind late on in the game; Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was the man coming to the rescue.

The visitors should have taken the lead before the break but an effort from Gabriele Angella hit the bar while at the other end Joe Bryan forced a smart save from Manuel Almunia.

But with just five minutes of normal time left, Sean Murray fired home a right foot shot that beat Parish.
That should have been curtains for City but instead they hit back straight away with Emmanuel-Thomas tapping home from close range.

But it would have been a different outcome had Alumina not pulled off a great save, tipping away a Wes Burn's cross.

After the game Steve Cotterill told BBC Radio Bristol: 'I thought it was a good game today. I'm really pleased we showed good character going 1-0 down so late - it would have been easy for the boys to give in. But they didn't and they have a good spirit about them.

'They're a great club with really nice people there. They have a new manager in there now and so they'll be looking to climb the Championship table as well.

'So it was a tough game for our boys today, and I think we did really well.'
